about this event
BUHack is the flagship event of HKBU Coding Club — a 48-hour online hackathon that brings together secondary and tertiary students from different schools and universities. Last year, BUHack welcomed 60+ students from different universities and majors. This year, teams of 2–5 members will build projects during an intensive online sprint. Tertiary students may form teams with students from different universities, encouraging cross-campus collaboration. Finalists will be invited to an in-person closing ceremony at HKBU, where they will present in front of sponsors and an audience and compete for prizes.
Event at a Glance: Dates 13-15 November, 2026. Format: 48-hour Online Build Sprint. Max participants: 200. Team size: 2-5 Members. Tracks: Secondary School & Tertiary Track. Themes: Automation, Data-driven Apps, Fintech, EdTech. Judges: To be announced.
Themes — choose one of the following four themes for your project: 1. Automation: Build bots and workflow tools that remove repetitive tasks — from chatbots to smart automations. 2. Data-driven Apps: Create apps that collect, analyze, or visualize data to help people make better decisions. 3. FinTech: Build financial tools and apps for budgeting, investing, saving, payment systems, and financial literacy platforms. 4. EdTech: Create study apps, tutoring platforms, gamified education, or accessibility tools that help students improve their learning.
Tracks: Track 1: Secondary School Students — The Secondary School Track supports community engagement and talent-development goals. It creates an early touchpoint with high-potential secondary students before university admission, enriches the hackathon through diverse teams, and strengthens sponsor value by connecting sponsors with a wider future talent pool. Track 2: Tertiary Students — The Tertiary Track is open to tertiary students. Tertiary participants are encouraged to form teams across universities to promote cross-campus collaboration.
Who Can Join? BUHack 2.0 welcomes secondary and tertiary students. Teams must have 2–5 members. Tertiary students are free to form teams with students from different universities.
What to Build: Build a project that aligns with one of the four themes — Automation, Data-driven Apps, FinTech, or EdTech — and demonstrates creativity, a clear use case, and a working demo. Projects will be submitted through Devpost, with final submission requirements shared closer to the event. Finalists will be invited to present at the in-person closing ceremony at HKBU.
Prizes: Finalists will be invited to the in-person closing ceremony with prizes. Prize categories and details will be announced closer to the event.
